1 Truck, 1 Trailer, 2 Brothers, 20 Years

June 11th-16th, 2023
Damir and Jasmin emigrated with their parents from their home country, then called Yugoslavia, to escape the Bosnian War in 1996. The parents worked hard to put Damir through Grand Valley State University, where he earned a mechanical engineering degree. Jasmin found work as a truck driver and eventually worked for himself. He then teamed up with his brother Damir and together they started Sweet Express LLC on June 11, 2003 with only 1 truck and 1 trailer.
Over the last 20 years, the brothers have continued to learn more and more about the trucking industry and its market including adding more trucks, trailers, drivers, employees, locations, companies and entities. See graphic below for a more detailed timeline of Sweets progress.
During the week of June 11th-16th, Sweet Express celebrated the growth that the company has had throughout the past 2 decades. Each internal employee received a Sweet Express goodie bag including a t-shirt and a small tumbler, and each driver received a duffle bag on top of the catered lunches we had all week. We were also able to giveaway a couple gift cards to 2 internal employees and portable leaf blowers to 3 random drivers!

The entire week was filled with celebratory decor, Sweet branded trinkets, delicious food, a plethora of photos, great conversation and of course laughs! This week was not only about celebrating the success of the company though, but it also was a chance for our team to just hangout with each other and relax a little bit. Part of what makes this company so amazing is the awesome people that are a part of it and the open lines of communication that we have with each other. Having these professional relationships and communication is only part of what has contributed to the success of the company. The largest part of the company of course, is the drivers and Sweet has been fortunate enough to have a lot of amazing drivers within the company! As of June 22, 2023 Sweet has 292 company drivers and 86 owner operators. When a company wide poll was sent out, just shy of 75% of the responses said that they would refer Sweet Express to a friend, over 42% stated that the people were their favorite part of working at Sweet and Sweet was described as being understanding, engaging and reliable. All of these responses are in line with what Sweet cherishes as our company ethos. Please visit the home page to view more about our mission, values and vision!

We would like to thank each and every one of our employees and drivers for all that they do for the company to keep us trucking along. We also would like to thank Nicole Marie’s Custom Party Cakes, 616 Party Rental, Mission BBQ, Buffalo Wild Wings, Palermos, Qdoba and Al-Bos for their awesome service and/or food.
